Indoor Air Quality Analysis and Investigation
On average, north Americans spend about 90 percent or more of their time indoors. Indoor levels of pollutants may be two to five times higher, and occasionally more than
100 times higher, than outdoor levels.
Nowadays, the air that we breathe contains foreign
matters, such as organic and inorganic dusts, pollens, viruses, bacteria, mould,
hydrocarbons, etc.
Respiratory disease and pulmonary deficiencies are becoming
more and more current. In several cases, it is important to perform air quality
sampling to determine the risk element and their toxicity level. Thus, once the
cause is known, it is easier to find an efficient solution to the problem
All samples drawn are analyzed in ISO certified laboratories and approved by
specialized air microbiologists
The general visit process for an air quality analysis
consists of the following components :
General Information
- Address where inspection is to take place
- Inspection date and time
- Indoor and outdoor temperatures
- Indoor and outdoor relative humidity
- Construction year and type
- Type of foundation
- Presence of domestic pets
Evaluation
- Use of evaluation grids
- General outlook of the house/building
- Smells picked up upon arrival
- General and specific room evaluation
- Geographic location + drainage
- Contaminants (air or surface) sampling and aspect evaluation
- Type of ventilation (air exchange unit, VRC, etc.)
- Evaluation of various contaminants such as:
- Biological (bacteria, mould, yeast
- Chemical (hydrocarbons, gas, etc.)
- Physical (structure, humidity, etc.)
- Photographs
Reporting and recommended improvement measures
- Revision of improvement measure list, when applicable
- Outline of all noted details
- Detailed results grid
- Interpretation of results taking into consideration samples and analyses performed
- Contaminant’s (air or surface) sampling and aspect evaluation
- Health risk evaluation
To perform the various samplings, we use the following templates and equipment
- Andersen Impactor
- Portable RCS Biotest Unit
- Contact gelose
- Swab test for sampling
- Direct material analysis (gypsum, wood, insulation material, etc.)
- Whenever relevant, sediment deposit analysis
